Role focus: This position is suited to a senior engineer who can connect robust backend development with responsible AI/ML delivery. The developer will help turn business requirements into secure, maintainable services, select appropriate technical approaches, and support solutions from initial design through production operation.
Expanded Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product owners, architects, data specialists, and stakeholders to understand business problems and define practical technical requirements.
- Design and build reusable Java components, backend services, and enterprise application features using established engineering and secure-coding practices.
- Create and document APIs, data contracts, event flows, and integration patterns that allow AI/ML capabilities to work reliably within existing systems.
- Support the complete machine-learning lifecycle, including data preparation, model evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvement.
- Assess AI outputs for accuracy, fairness, latency, privacy, and operational risk.
- Review technical proposals, write automated tests, and validate fixes through code reviews and continuous-integration processes.
- Identify performance bottlenecks, reliability issues, and contribute to long-term platform stability.
Core Qualifications and Technical Skills
- At least five years of professional Java development experience, with a strong grasp of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, testing, and maintainable code.
- Experience delivering production applications and services, including error handling, logging, observability, configuration management, and API versioning.
- Practical understanding of AI/ML concepts such as supervised and unsupervised learning, model training, evaluation metrics, deployment, and lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with integrating models or AI services through REST APIs, asynchronous messaging, batch processing, or other service-to-service communication methods.
- Ability to design for scalability, resilience, security, accessibility, and data protection, particularly when working with sensitive public-sector information.
- Experience participating in architecture discussions, technical discovery, estimation, sprint planning, and cross-functional delivery.
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms, containerization, infrastructure as code, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines is advantageous.
